Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions How much does it cost?
That depends on the job we do and it varies from case to case. We have a tariff of fixed charges which we are happy to share with you (see Tariff).
Do you give Free Interviews?
We offer a first Free Interview of up to 30 minutes if requested, but you must make a special appointment, making it clear that you want to take advantage of the offer.
Do I have to wait long before I can meet with you?
No. We often see people who just "pop in", on a "First Aid" basis to identify the legal problem and give some initial advice for short term use, pending detailed instruction, further consideration of the issues involved and a full opinion. Usually we can give you an appointment within a week of your first contact.
Do you want payment in advance?
Not for such things as wills and powers of attorney, but if we are going to have to incur expenses on your behalf, and/or undertake any more time-consuming work or investigations, we will require an advance payment, the amount of which will vary from case to case. In some cases we require a retainer fee.
Will my money be safe with you?
It most certainly will be!! As a solicitor I am regulated by the Law Society and my accounts are scrutinised and audited annually. Your money will be credited to your very own account with my practice and held at the practice bank (presently HSBC Bank PLC).
What will happen to my documents?
Any documents you lend us for the purposes of your case will be returned to you at its end, unless they are lodged at court or elsewhere.
The working papers in your file will be released to you at the end of your case if you wish; otherwise they will be retained in store by the practice for not less than 3 years and not more than 15 years, the length depending on the type of case.
